The 5th International Congress of Railway History and Heritage “The legacies for our future” (a Railways Section of The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage -TICCIH meeting),and the 4th Meeting of Young Researchers in Railway History and Heritage will be held, respectively, on September 09, 10 and 11, 2020, online.
Railway history and heritage have already been the subject of other international events in Latin American, as the 4th Railway Heritage Meeting organized by Brazilian Representative TICCIH (Sao Paulo, 2012) and the Congress of Railway History, organized by Argentine Representative TICCIH (Mendoza, 2017). The 6TH International Railway History Association – AIRF congress had already taken place in Latin America, organized by IRHA and supported by TICCIH / Chile (Santiago de Chile, 2015). In this field, the TICCIH, IRHA and Brazilian Representative ICOMOS support our initiative to promote the 5th International Congress of Railway History and Heritage, in Campinas (Brazil), from 9th to 11th September 2020, to discuss conservation issues relevant to developing countries: territorial management, education and heritage communication.
Holding the 5th International Congress of Railway History and Heritage “The legacies for our future” and the 4th Meeting of Young Researchers in Railway History and Heritage are a joint initiative of the Memory Railway Research Group / São Paulo State University – UNESP – and the PosUrb-Arq Heritage, Preservation Policies and Territorial Management Research Group from the Pontifica Universidade Catótica (Pontifical Catholic University) of Campinas, in the state of São Paulo.
The 5th Congress aims to promote discussion about the role of railway heritage today, particularly in Latin American countries. The event will feature various themes and looks forward to contributions that point to advances in research, management of the preservation and use of railway assets and the importance of these heritage assets for social development.
Concomitantly with the Congress schedule, the 4th Meeting of Young Researchers aims to disseminate the scientific results achieved by undergraduate and postgraduate researchers in railway history, urban studies and preservation of railway industrial heritage. The event aims to stimulate the training of human resources and future researchers in order to continue interdisciplinary studies in this area.
The event is mainly aimed at the public composed of researchers and students (postgraduate and undergraduate), professionals in the field of heritage preservation and management and others interested in history, architecture, urbanism and railway heritage.
The official languages of both events will be Portuguese, Spanish and English.
