dc.description.abstract
During two centuries of practical application of electricity, new and challenging perspectives have opened up. After decades in which per capita electricity consumption was extolled as a national development indicator, environmental issues have prompted new debates towards energy transition, energy conservation, and energy efficiency. The core issues of the electrification process have long been dealt with, but there are less well known realities from several countries history in Europe, Latin America, and China. The strong point in this book is therefore the crossing-over of different geographical perspectives from the cultural, economic, and technological history of electricity.
