We believe that comparative international case studies of preservation, such as England and Brazil, can contribute to understand values and conditions of preserving the railroad heritage. In this sense, the historical tourist trains summarize some reuse situations railroad heritage. From a financial point of view, the financial sustainability of this type of development is precarious, and profitable ventures appear to be exceptions to the rule. However, the historic train is a success from the symbolic point of view. While the English travelers have the return to the golden era of the greatness of Britain prewar, Brazilian travelers return to a past imaginary rural and pre-industrial.
