A hip\u00f3tese \u00e9 a de que as exig\u00eancias crescentes na execu\u00e7\u00e3o de obras e o novo conhecimento cartogr\u00e1fico demandaram mais registros visuais, o que foi suprido e potencializado com o surgimento das t\u00e9cnicas fotogr\u00e1ficas. Levantaram-se informa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre registros fotogr\u00e1ficos das estradas de ferro produzidos no Brasil ap\u00f3s a d\u00e9cada de 1850, a fim de analisar as caracter\u00edsticas dessas imagens. A an\u00e1lise foi aprofundada numa s\u00e9rie de fotografias de Marc Ferrez, por ter o maior volume de vistas ferrovi\u00e1rias atualmente acess\u00edvel, o que possibilitou o reconhecimento de padr\u00f5es nessas imagens a ponto de identific\u00e1-las como \u201cregistro fotogr\u00e1fico de obra\u201d. Abstract: This article analyzes how railway engineering was connected to the production of photographs in mid-nineteenth-century Brazil. The hypothesis is that growing demands related to the execution of projects and new cartographic knowledge required more visual records, which was supplied and leveraged with the emergence of photographic techniques. Data was collected on photographic records of railroads taken in Brazil after the 1850s to analyze the characteristics of these images.
