Para tanto, foram utilizadas publica\u00e7\u00f5es da \u00e1rea, tais como a Revista de Engenharia do Mackenzie College e a Revista Polytechnica, publica\u00e7\u00e3o da Escola Polit\u00e9cnica de S\u00e3o Paulo. O s\u00e9culo XIX pode ser entendido como um per\u00edodo no qual ideias provenientes de um contexto externo, particularmente a Europa, atingiram um alto grau de difus\u00e3o entre a elite brasileira em todos os \u00e2mbitos, influenciando o desenvolvimento e a valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o do saber t\u00e9cnico e da engenharia. Dessa maneira, buscou-se verificar, por meio da bibliografia e das fontes, a poss\u00edvel converg\u00eancia entre o que era difundido e proposto nas escolas de engenharia e a realiza\u00e7\u00e3o de tais propostas. Analisou-se o discurso modernizante que permeou a atividade desses profissionais, e a poss\u00edvel converg\u00eancia entre as idealiza\u00e7\u00f5es para os profissionais da \u00e1rea e o perfil do engenheiro ferrovi\u00e1rio. Al\u00e9m disso, foram estudadas as principais institui\u00e7\u00f5es de ensino do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo e as principais influ\u00eancias e \u00e1reas de atua\u00e7\u00e3o dos engenheiros encarregados de promover o progresso do pa\u00eds e os interesses do Estado. This paper analyzes the discourse of engineering on colonization of S\u00e3o Paulo State, between 1890 and 1910. For this purpose, we used publications in the field, the Revista de Engenharia of Mackenzie College and the Revista Polytechnica, published by the Escola Polit\u00e9cnica de S\u00e3o Paulo. The nineteenth century can be understood as a period in which ideas from an external environment, particularly Europe, have achieved a high degree of diffusion between the Brazilian elite in all areas, influencing the development and enhancement of technical knowledge and engineering. Thus we attempted to verify through the bibliography and the sources, the possible convergence between what was proposed and circulated in the schools of engineering and the realization of such proposals. We analyzed the discourse of modernization that has pervaded the activity of these professionals, and the possible convergence between the idealization for professionals of area and the profile of the railway engineer.
